Manni Dee - Everything Sullied (SLAM011) - Review

There is literally no stopping London based producer Manni Dee when it comes to gut wrenching productions. His tracks are angry and fierce, consistently of an exceptional quality.

Manni has previously released tracks on massive labels such as Perc Trax, Earwiggle, Leyla Records, and Tresor, and takes massive influence from politics - his tracks conveying strong perceptible messages that are evident in his cunning productions.

Manni is a top favourite of most techno enthusiasts. We see his name popping up on some of the biggest techno rosters in the world, and constantly hear his tracks sliding in to sets of some of the biggest DJs in the the game. His latest release on SLAM (South London Analog Material) titled ‘Everything Sullied’ is a solid dark and bold 4 track EP, and like all his previous releases pulls you right in to a world of fast paced drums and slamming hardcore-sounding insanity.

‘Take and Never Give’ immediately throws you in to the deep end, and literally makes you want to tear your eyes out with its fast and berserk 4/4 invigorating rhythm. The rattling agitated hats and violent kick drum against faintly dotted vocal-like sample is sharp and powerful. The dominating synth pattern used is abrasive and frantic and the acid-like stabs and distorted elements really compliment the tracks progression. ‘Take and Never Give’ has a rich techno soundscape and is a hat tip to many of Manni's exciting productions.

'Hostile Environment' is the 2nd 4/4 track on the EP and leaves little time to catch your breath after track 1. Again we are introduced to a forceful kick accompanied by shrill percussive stabs and a faded vocal sample. This track is certain to have a serious impact when played in any dark environment. The production holds a huge amount of rave energy and the brutality of the track is teeth clenching and filthy.

‘A Philistine Like You’ takes a different approach to the first two tracks, and we are introduced to a blood tingling breakbeat rhythm. The drums and rattling scattered percussion are an immediate attention grabber. The lead synth is more spread out and uses a lot of space while still managing to hold on to that dirty warehouse feeling. ‘A Philistine Like You’ gives the EP a lot of depth, and shows just how good Manni’s production abilities are.

‘Comply or Die’ has the perfect title, and is a beautiful hammering end to the release. The sound design of the track holds a significant amount of booming low end, and the distorted twitchy sounds make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. The high-pitched vocal sample is thrilling. The menacing pattern grows steadily, and a breakbeat rhythm is once again introduced, this time a lot heavier and captivating. The swift percussion sounds used throughout the duration creates manic energy and leaves you feeling restrained by the toughness end edginess of the production.

‘Everything Sullied’ is a high-quality admirable EP, and you can be sure to hear these tracks echo throughout a lot of dance floors this year.
