Review: Forever 1 - Perc Trax

When you see Manni Dee, Rebekah, Scalameriya and Head Front Panel all on the same EP, you know it's going to be a mutation of face-melting madness in the best possible way.

Perc Trax brought all four artists together and released the 'Forever 1' EP under the imprint's Various Artists series last month. Acting as an outlet to release individual productions swiftly, it saves having to wait for artists to complete and schedule a full EP. The sooner the better!

Our favourite Peckham based producer Manni Dee kicks things off with 'Gulabi Gang', a crunchy, rave-tinged banger, akin to the sonic version of a field filled with crumpled tins, blinding strobes and sweaty, topless specimens at the tail end of a festival. In other words, something that wouldn't go amiss at the likes of a DSNT night.

Rebekah's 'Diamond in the Rough’ is a darker, moodier production with steely percussion and a relentless, well-rounded kick drum bubbling under the surface, allowing a steady flow of pummelling energy to infiltrate throughout. Making a solid impression with her first creation on the imprint, we're hoping it won't be her last.

After the success of 'Hellzone Megapunk' on Perc Trax back in April, Scalameriya returns with 'Slobodna'. Menacing drums will make you clutch your heart for a moment - it's mean, fast paced, and utterly unforgiving, with a mental melody of clattering percussion screaming out as the lead of the track.

John Heckle's Head Front Panel moniker makes an appearance and finishes the compilation with a smattering of industrial chaos titled 'Furious', which certainly lives up to its name. It's a brutal ride which would fit mid-set for an intense peak to really shake (or freak out) a crowd to its core.

If this is the kind of stuff Perc Trax will be churning out over the year via the Various Artists series, the combination of these four immensely talented artists - each of whom are at different stages of their career - has set the bar intimidatingly high.
