Event Review: Ismus Retroism

Ismus are infamous for their heavy line ups and this one was no different. The energy for this night had been building since releasing the names of the mighty acts that would soon grace the decks of Greissmuhle, Berlin’s grimy techno hot spot. Before entering through the main doors you could sense the club was enraptured, pounding beats seeping through the walls, exciting the awaiting ravers.

With beats being fired around the place like an AK47, the choice of which room to enter first was overwhelming. In the main room SCHACKE was controlling the thrashes. No time for Vaseline with this boy, he went in completely dry and hammered out full hi-energy beats turning the dancefloor into a sea of hip thrusting half naked bodies. Leaving his set on a high with his own material released on Ectotherm, ‘Future Not Materialized’, had the room buzzing for STRANGER who soiled the air with trance vibes and dirty basslines leaving the crowd looking like they were hopping around on a pogo stick - if you didn’t know where you were you could have easily mistook it for an early 90s old skool rave. Respect has to be vocalised here as it was hands down one of the most immersed atmospheres I have witnessed.

Keeping things equally enthralled in the Silo, Greissmuhle’s grungy rave cave, was Xavier, Tim Tama and Trym. Track after track kept everyone lit and two stepping so hard you didn’t know if you were licking your own sweat or the sweat of everyone in your radius. If this got all too much, the old but fresh beats were provided by the WAFFLES crew in the garden with absolute gems like ‘Voiron – Voironizer’. With the mix of German, French and multiple languages being spoken, everyone was united for the love of a good beat because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good fucking rave?
